Dorchester Avenue Temporary Closure for Wheaton Sanitary District Project

The Wheaton Sanitary District will be closing Dorchester Avenue between Lakeside Drive and Childs Street starting Wednesday, Oct. 19 while crews install a new sanitary sewer main under the creek. The closure is expected to last approximately 3 weeks. This work is associated with the Northside Interceptor Sewer Replacement Project. During this closure, detour signs will direct traffic around this one-block closure.

The Wheaton Sanitary District is a separate entity from the City of Wheaton that provides sewer treatment for the majority of Wheaton. To learn more about this infrastructure improvement project, visit the Wheaton Sanitary District's website.

New Bike Ramp Installed in Pedestrian Underpass

The pedestrian underpass at Roosevelt Road and Wheaton Avenue is now bicycle-friendly thanks to the addition of a bike ramp. Public Works crews recently installed a product designed by a Minneapolis-based manufacturer that allows bicyclists to safely traverse the underpass stairs by walking their bicycles along a thin ramp designed specifically for bicycle tires. This new feature is the result of resident feedback requesting a way to make it easier for bicyclists to use the underpass.
