Commission on Aging Seeking Members

Want to make a difference in our community? The newly formed Commission on Aging has 3 available positions for residents to join the volunteer commission. Among the group’s primary responsibilities are administering the Senior Housing Assistance Program, which provides financial assistance to help lower-income seniors with monthly costs. You can read about the commission’s purpose and fill out an application on the City's website.

Garbage/Recycling/Yard Waste Rate Changes Begin in October

Garbage/yard waste/recycling rate changes for residents served by LRS will go into effect starting Oct. 1. As part of a 3-year contract for service, the second and third years of service reflect a 2% increase, which this year ranges from $0.04 to $0.10 per pickup, depending on your cart sizes and the type of service. Celebrate International Music Day with Performances at Memorial Park

Wheaton's Fine & Cultural Arts Commission encourages the community to celebrate International Music Day on Saturday, October 1 with free performances at Memorial Park. From 3-6 p.m., hear three singing groups in the Wheaton Park District's Memorial Park Bandshell. Then, help close out the day by joining in a community-wide sing along of “It’s a Small World” at 6 p.m. Sing on your porch, in your yard, on the sidewalk or anywhere you’re comfortable! City Accepting Applications for New Program to Reduce Yard Flooding

The City of Wheaton has a new program to help residents reduce flooding or standing water in their yards that occurs after significant rainfall, making part of their yards unusable. This shared-cost program will reimburse up to 50% of the cost, up to $5,000, for property owners to have a contractor install a private storm sewer service in their yard that connects to the City’s storm sewer system. 
Interested residents must submit an application for this program between now and Feb. 1, 2023. Find out more and get the application.

Road Closures for Light the Torch 5K Run on Saturday

This Saturday evening, the Wheaton Park District will be hosting the Light the Torch 5K Run. Please note several road closures associated with the event from approximately 6:30-9 p.m. We appreciate your help in keeping participants and spectators safe.

Celebrate Fall with October Fest

The Wheaton Park District invites the community to attend October Fest starting at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Central Athletic Complex, 500 S. Naperville Road. Enjoy a family-friendly evening in downtown Wheaton, complete with live entertainment, food, beer garden and children’s area. For details, see the Wheaton Park District’s website.

Chili Cookoff Returns to Downtown Wheaton

Restaurants will compete for the title of Chili Cookoff champion during the Downtown Wheaton Association’s 14th annual Chili Cookoff on Oct. 8. This year includes 15 downtown businesses, with ticketholders deciding the champion. For tickets and more information, visit the Downtown Wheaton Association’s website.

Are You Ready to Rock the Vote?

Wheaton Public Library is partnering with the Wheaton League of Women Voters, Downtown Wheaton Association, and Wheaton Chamber of Commerce to encourage everyone to register to vote before the upcoming November election! We will have events this fall with opportunities to register, such as at Rock the Vote on Hale Street, and at the library’s Beatles tribute concert. Find out more on the Library's website.
