Wheaton Police Department Reminds Residents of Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and the City’s Social Worker along with the Police Department wants to remind residents that seeking out help due to mental illness is not a sign of weakness. Both adults and children can experience depression, anxiety and other factors that lead to mental illness. The COVID-19 pandemic has influenced the amount of people that struggle with this disease. Two videos, one focusing on childhood mental illness and one highlighting adult mental illness have been posted on the City’s website describing the causes of mental illness and ways to seek help. If you or someone you know suffers from the listed issues, please reach out to the City’s Social Worker, Khadija Khan, at 630-260-2545 or email her at kkhan@wheaton.il.us.

City Council Chambers

City Council to Discuss Roosevelt Road Corridor Plan at May 23 Planning Session

The Wheaton City Council will review public feedback and share input regarding the updated Roosevelt Road Corridor Plan at the May 23 City Council Planning Session. At the beginning of 2022, the City shared with the community an updated draft plan. The City then sought community feedback on the draft through a series of public meetings and an online survey. The City and Camiros Ltd., the consulting firm, compiled the feedback and the resulting information will be presented to the City Council at the May 23 City Council Planning Session. The City Council will review this feedback and share their input in preparation for the City to hold a public hearing and consider a final draft.
The community is welcome to attend the City Council Planning Session, which will take place at 7 p.m. Monday, May 23 in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 303 W. Wesley St. You can also attend this meeting via Zoom, and this meeting will be recorded and available on the City’s website. Please note that while this meeting will gather input from the City Council, no formal action will be taken. The next step in this process will be a public hearing, and the City will send notices once this public hearing date is determined.
