Celebrate Wheaton’s Sustainable ActionsAs Earth Day approaches, we're sharing some sustainable actions the City is taking to help Turn Wheaton Green. To date, the Public Works Department has replaced 58% of Wheaton's streetlights with LED fixtures, which use 60% less energy than the ones they replace. That amounts to 1,645 energy-efficient streetlights so far. Follow the City on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram for more sustainability facts in the coming days. You can find us by searching for @CityOfWheaton on any of these platforms.

The vehicle, which was left running near the store, was taken by a male subject, described as a white male in his 30’s or 40’s, approximately 5’09”, with a skinny build, stubbled facial hair, wearing dark pants and a dark jacket. The subject drove the vehicle from the area and dropped off the child near a parking lot of an adjacent local business, and the child was safely reunited with the family shortly after the vehicle was taken. Upcoming Public Hearings April 26 on Two Proposed ProjectsThe Wheaton Planning & Zoning Board will hold two public hearings at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 26 at City Hall, 303 W. Wesley St.: - An application requesting rezoning and a special use permit to construct an apartment complex on the block bounded by Liberty Drive, Hale Street, Willow Avenue, and Wheaton Avenue (excluding 201-203 W. Willow, and 213, 221 & 223 S. Wheaton Ave.) following the demolition of existing structures. The complex is proposed as 306 units, 7 stories, 429 parking spaces, and 4,502 square feet of first-floor commercial (restaurant) space.
- A zoning application requesting a special use permit to allow a business and professional office (coworking space) to occupy the main floor of the commercial properties at the northwest corner of Front & Main Streets (101, 103 & 105 W. Front St. and 106, 108 & 110 N. Main St.), formerly Sandberg's Store for Men & Boys. The property is zoned C-2 Retail Core Business District, so a coworking office would require a special use permit.
You can see the Public Hearing Notices on the City's website. After the Planning & Zoning Board conducts public hearings (which could be continued to a future meeting to gather additional input, if needed), the Board will make a recommendation to the City Council. The City Council will formally consider these applications at a future meeting.
