Recycling Extravaganza Is This Saturday

Where can you donate soccer gear, shred documents, dispose of latex paint and unload a bike you no longer need? Wheaton’s Recycling Extravaganza!

Once a year, Wheaton’s Environmental Improvement Commission teams up with SCARCE, DuPage County, the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office and lots of community organizations for a fantastic opportunity to keep all sorts of items out of landfills. Document shredding, safe disposal of syringes/medicine, eye glasses, walkers & wheelchairs, bikes, mercury thermometers, car batteries and LOTS more. See the full details and help protect our local environment through recycling, safe disposal or reuse.

Please note that this event will not accept electronics, cooking oil, or the items we collect each month at the monthly electronic recycling events. This monthly event will be offered on April 9 at the Public Works Storage Yard.

Sewer main

Sewer Project along Orchard Road Begins Week of April 4

Crews plan to begin replacing storm sewers along Orchard Road between Colonial Square and Butterfield Road starting the week of April 4. Excavation will take place in the street and parkway, which will require intermittent closures of Orchard Road between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Flaggers will help direct traffic near the work area. Drivers in this area may want to choose an alternate route. We apologize for the inconvenience this causes and appreciate your patience while our crews work to make important infrastructure upgrades.

French Market

French Market Begins April 9 in Temporary Location

The Wheaton French Market will kick off its 2022 season on Saturday, April 9 in a temporary location while crews work to complete the new Downtown Streetscape pavilion on Liberty Drive. The temporary location will be on Liberty between Cross and Reber and on Reber between Liberty and Willow, in front of the old DuPage County Courthouse.

The market will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Saturday. This popular outdoor market run by Bensidoun USA is styled after the quaint outdoor markets of France, offering fresh produce, flowers, handcrafted goods, specialty foods, jewelry, crafts, baked goods and much more. Vendors often change throughout the season, so visitors will find different items each week. More information and a vendor application are available on the City’s website.

Check Out the ‘We Are Women Art Exhibit’ in Downtown Wheaton

Last call for the Women’s History Month ‘We Are Women Art Exhibit’ in downtown Wheaton! Check out the work of local female artists before the event closes at the end of March. This project is a partnership between the Community Relations Commission, the DuPage Art League and Downtown Wheaton Association, displaying artwork from some of the DuPage Art League’s talented female artists and other local artists at some of Wheaton’s fabulous women-owned or managed businesses. See a map of the participating businesses and locations with a suggested walking itinerary.

Police Ride-Along

Police Department Offering Citizen Ride-Along Program

If you'd like to see what it's like to provide police services to the community, the Wheaton Police Department offers the Citizens Ride-Along Program, which pairs a resident with an officer for a shift. Interested citizens should fill out the Ride-Along Program Application Form. Or, visit the Wheaton Police Department at 900 W. Liberty Drive and speak with a Police Services Representative.

Once you submit an application and waiver, a representative from the Wheaton Police Department will contact you. If approved, we will coordinate the date and time of the ride-along with you.

Submit Comments on Roosevelt Road Corridor Plan Draft

City staff and representatives from consulting partner Camiros held two community input sessions regarding the updated Roosevelt Road Corridor Plan draft on March 23 and 24. We appreciate the input community members shared during these two sessions, and we are continuing to collect community input, especially from those who were unable to attend the hybrid in-person/Zoom sessions. You can easily share your feedback using the feedback form. You can also view the updated draft, see a video overview guiding you through the plan, and view the slides from the community input sessions at www.wheaton.il.us/rooseveltroad.

Yard Waste Pickup Resumes Week of April 5

Yard waste, food scraps and organic materials are collected at the curb from the first full week of April through the second full week of December. Please do not place yard waste at the curb before the week of April 5, as Lakeshore Recycling Systems can’t accept these materials before the pickup season begins.
