Wheaton Fire Department Extinguishes House Fire

At approximately 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec.15, 2021 the Wheaton Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 500 block of Robinwood. Upon arrival, fire crews identified a fire in the attached garage of a single-family home. The fire was brought under control within minutes. The sole occupant of the home safely escaped, and the incident did not result in any injuries.

Visit the City's website for more information.

Cops

Police Spread Holiday Cheer with Annual Shop With A Cop Program

On Saturday, Dec. 11, members of the Wheaton Police Department helped spread holiday cheer to some Wheaton families in need with the annual Shop With A Cop program. Officers continued with the pandemic-adapted program and shopped using a Christmas Wishlist provided by the families. The gifts were then delivered by a caravan of squad cars. The officers volunteered their time, and the funds were supplied by the Metropolitan Alliance of Police #699.

The Wheaton Police Department would like to extend a thank you to the Wheaton Target for their generous assistance year after year, and wishes everyone a happy and safe holiday season.

Prevent Christmas Tree Fires with Tips from the Wheaton Fire Department

Christmas trees can become a dangerous fire hazard that can be engulfed in flames very quickly. You can prevent this from happening by using the following tips from the Wheaton Fire Department.

  • Fill your tree stand daily with water
  • Keep trees at least 3-feet away from any heat source (e.g., floor vents, fireplaces, lamps, etc.)
  • Replace strands of lights with broken or loose bulbs, or loose wire connections
  • Follow manufacturer instructions on how many strands of lights you can safely connect together
  • Unplug lights before going to bed or leaving your house
  • Dispose of your tree immediately after the holidays

Visit the City’s website to view a video showing how quickly a dry Christmas tree can be engulfed in flames from the Wheaton Fire Department.

West Front Street Spaces Added to City’s Parking Payment System; New Parking Kiosk Installed at Metra Station

The 12-hour commuter parking space meters located on West Front Street between Manchester Bridge and Gary Avenue have been deactivated as the City has extended its parking payment system to include the parking spaces in this area. Please note that the 2-hour metered parking spaces for customers of businesses in the area remain unchanged and should not be used for commuter parking.

People using these spaces can pay either using the Passport Parking app, www.passportparking.com, or by using cash or credit at one of the City’s parking kiosks, including the new kiosk located on the south side of the downtown Metra Station.

Visit the City’s website for more information about how to pay for commuter parking, or for locations of the City’s parking kiosks.
