Annual Budget Workshop Discussion Is SaturdayIf you would like to learn about the City’s proposed Calendar Year 2022 Budget, attend the City’s second Budget Workshop Session on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 9 a.m. The second of two sessions will take place in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 303 W Wesley Street, where City staff and the City Council will continue to review the proposed City budget for the upcoming year. Help the Wheaton Police Department Stuff the Squad for DuPage County Animal ServicesThe Wheaton Police Department encourages the community to come Stuff the Squad to help our furry neighbors in need on Wednesday, Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The community can visit the Wheaton Police Department at 900 W. Liberty Drive between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and help stuff a squad car full of donations and items needed by DuPage County Animal Services. Contactless donations can be placed directly into the squad, and there will also be a drop box in the lobby all day Wednesday if you're unable to drop off items during the event hours. The types of items needed include: - General Items: Blankets & comforters (new or gently used; no sheets or pillows, please); top-loading pet carriers; martingale-style dog collars (all sizes); soft dog treats and training treats (e.g. Wellness Pure Rewards Turkey Jerky); small animal baby bottles; and freedom no-pull harnesses (sizes Large and X-Large) and freedom leashes.
- Food & Treats: Powdered kitten milk replacement formula; long-lasting dog chews (e.g. bully sticks; USA-made only, please); and canned adult dog and cat food (any brand).
- Cleaning Items: Pet stain and odor remover (e.g. Nature’s Miracle); disinfecting wipes; and paper towels.
- Enrichment Items: Peanut butter; ground cinnamon and nutmeg; catnip; cream cheese; squeeze cheese; and many other items on the enrichment items list on the City’s website.
DuPage County Animal Services (DCAS) is located in Wheaton and is the only immediate open admission shelter in and around DuPage County. As a self-supporting county department, DCAS cares for nearly 3,000 animals every year without the support of property tax dollars and fund operations using revenues from the sale of rabies registration tags, fines, fees, and private donations.

Roosevelt Road Pedestrian Underpass Is Now OpenThe pedestrian tunnel under Roosevelt Road at Wheaton Avenue is now open! Crews lined the existing tunnel ceiling and walls with metal plates, replaced the lighting and handrails, and poured new concrete flooring and stairs. The City had previously closed the tunnel due to deteriorating materials in the decades-old passageway under Roosevelt Road.

Electronic Recycling Offered on SaturdayThe City of Wheaton in association with e-Works will offer its monthly electronic recycling drop-off event this Saturday, Nov. 13 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Public Works Storage Yard, 820 W. Liberty (near the Wheaton Police Department). Accepted items include electronics, scrap metals, textiles (shoes, purses, belts, clothes, towels, and sheets) placed in bags, fluorescent tube bulbs and cooking oil. All volunteers, staff, and participants are asked to follow the CDC Covid-19 guidelines. Please see the City's website for full instructions and for how to pre-pay for recycling TVs and monitors.

Holiday Display Contest Registration Opens FridayHelp Light Up Wheaton this year by simply putting out lights and decorations in the coming weeks by adding lights and decorations outside your home, business, church, or other organization for all to see. And, if you’d like to show off your displays as part of the Light Up Wheaton holiday display contest, you can register between Friday, Nov. 12 and Friday, Dec. 10 through the Wheaton Park District's website.

Leaf & Yard Debris DisposalResidents can place leaves and yard debris in containers 35 gallons in size or smaller, or in biodegradable bags. Containers or bags must weigh less than 50 pounds when filled. Each container or bag requires a yard waste/organics/ excess garbage sticker, which is available at City Hall and at many local grocery and hardware stores. The City prohibits open burning of yard waste, garbage, or other materials including leaves. Yard waste, food scraps and organic materials can be collected at the curb through the second full week of December (Dec. 18, 2021). This event will offer like-new gift books for adults and children, collectible books, leather-bound treasures, first editions, artwork, and much more with all proceeds benefiting the library.
