Unofficial Election Results for City CouncilThe DuPage County Election Commission reports the following unofficial results from yesterday's Consolidated General Election. The elected City Council members will be sworn in at the May 3 Wheaton City Council meeting.
Voters selected the following district representatives for the Wheaton City Council: - North District Council Member: Scott A. Brown
- South District Council Member: Scott D. Weller
- East District Council Member: Michael Francis Barbier
- West District Council Member: Lynn A. Robbins

For community members without internet access, people in need of language assistance and those having difficulty registering online, the DuPage County Health Department has call-takers who can help with registration at 630-682-7400. Recycling Extravaganza This Saturday The City’s Recycling Extravaganza event will be happening in Wheaton from 8:30 a.m. through 11:30 a.m. this Saturday, April 10. Taking place at Commuter Lot 9 (at Liberty Drive and Carlton Avenue), residents can bring a variety of materials to be reused or recycled at this drive-through event where volunteers will unload items to be safely disposed of at the event. Things you can bring include: documents for shredding; syringes, epi-pens & medicine for safe disposal; scrap metal; bikes; books, latex paint (fee applies), electronics (fee applies for monitors & TVs) and much more.
Masks are required at this event, and participants are asked to place items to be dropped off as far back in their trunks as possible for volunteers to handle.

French Market Returns April 10Wheaton’s popular outdoor market kicks off this Saturday, April 10 at the new temporary 2021 location of Reber Street and Liberty Drive near Courthouse Square and the City’s Water Department facility. Visit the French Market between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. each Saturday to find specialty foods, baked goods, locally grown produce, flowers, handmade gifts, jewelry and much more. Parking is available in the nearby Willow Avenue Garage at Willow and Cross Street. Visit the City's website for a map of the event.
The market will open with many of the previous year’s Covid-19 precautions in place to protect the health of shoppers and vendors. Please visit the City’s website to review health and safety guidelines if you are planning on visiting the Wheaton French Market.

Native Plant Sale Taking Place April 24The Wheaton Environmental Improvement Commission’s Native Plant Sale will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 24 at the City of Wheaton Storage Yard, 820 W. Liberty Drive. Parking for this event will be at the Commuter Parking Lot 9, just east of the Storage Yard, at Liberty Drive and Carlton Avenue.
This event is provided through the partnership of the City's Environmental Improvement Commission, City of Wheaton and Wheaton Park District to encourage the community to choose eco-friendly plants for their landscapes.

Nominations Being Accepted for Good Citizens Awards Through April 26Wheaton's Community Relations Commission is seeking nominations for Wheaton’s 2021 Good Citizens Awards now through April 26. This award helps recognize those who make the generous and often extraordinary contributions that make Wheaton an outstanding community. This may be volunteer service for a school, religious institution, nursing home, civic group or nonprofit organization.
Nominees must be current Wheaton residents who have done something for the benefit of Wheaton and its citizens. The categories for nominees are: Student (elementary, middle, high school or college), Adult, Group.
To nominate someone, fill out an online application at www.wheaton.il.us/goodcitizen by Monday, April 26, or mail your application to Wheaton City Hall, Attn: Andrea Rosedale, 303 W. Wesley St., Wheaton, IL 60187.
The Community Relations Commission will review nominations and will honor award recipients at the May 17 City Council meeting.

Wheaton Police Department Welcomes New Police OfficerThe Wheaton Police Department welcomed it newest Police Officer, Corey Eldridge, at the April 5 City Council meeting. Officer Eldridge previously served as a member of the Nashville Police Department and has returned to the Wheaton area to be near family. The City is thrilled to welcome Officer Eldridge to the Wheaton Police Department.

Wheaton Police Department and CUSD 200 to Host Student Driver Safety EventThe Wheaton Police Department is partnering with Community Unit School District 200 to host a Student Driver Safety Event on April 25. The first session is specifically for students with special needs and their parents, and the second session is for student drivers and their parents. The idea for this event came from an outstanding Wheaton North student, and the Wheaton Police Department is excited to help inform our community's teen drivers and their families.
