City Offices Closed Friday, April 2

Non-emergency City of Wheaton offices will be closed on Friday, April 2. 

Vote

Consolidated Municipal Election Takes Place on Tuesday, April 6

Wheaton voters can vote up until Tuesday next week to select their District representative on the City Council during the April 6, 2021 Consolidated General Election. This election will also include Park District Board and School Board positions.

Wheaton residents live in one of the four election districts: North, South, East or West. Each district elects one member to the City Council to represent their portion of the city. Your District can be found on the Wheaton Election Districts map (PDF), and the DuPage County Clerk’s Office has listed the candidates for Wheaton City Council on its Unofficial Candidate List (PDF).

In-Person Voting
In-person early voting can be done at the DuPage County Fairgrounds (2015 Manchester Road), or at any of the other additional early voting locations. For in-person early voting hours and a list of additional voting locations visit the DuPage County website. If voting in-person on election day, residents can visit www.dupageco.org/voterlookup to find the site of their polling place. 

Please note that the voter registration period has ended, and if you are not registered to vote, then “grace period" registration is available up until the day before the election. Voters that register during “grace period” registration must vote at the time of registration. 

Vote by Mail
Eligible DuPage County registered voters may also Vote by Mail. To be valid, a completed Vote by Mail ballot must be postmarked earlier but not later than midnight on April 6. If voting using the Vote by Mail option, please remember to sign and date your envelope before mailing it back to the DuPage County Election Commission.

Wesley Street City Hall Entrance Temporarily Closed

The entrance to City Hall from Wesley Street will be temporarily closed through Monday, April 5 due to construction as part of the Downtown Streetscape Project. To use the drive-through mailbox to drop off City bills, please enter the City Hall parking lot from Wheaton Avenue and park to drop off your bill. 

Vaccine

Vaccine Appointments Expanded to Phase 1B+ in DuPage County

On March 24, the DuPage County Health Department expanded Covid-19 vaccine appointment opportunities to individuals who are eligible in Phase 1B+, which includes persons 16 to 64 years old with comorbidities and underlying conditions, as well as individuals with disabilities.

Streetscape

Downtown Streetscape Project Update

The Downtown Streetscape Project construction work is moving along accordingly on Liberty Drive, Wesley Street, and Wheaton Avenue. Construction crews have completed work that includes: 
  • Installment of the last stretch of water main on Liberty Drive from Main Street to Cross Street
  • Installment of new fire hydrants along Liberty Drive 
  • Removal of the curb, driveways and sidewalk on the north side of Wesley Street from West Street to Wheaton Avenue, and on the west side of Wheaton Avenue from Wesley to Front Street
Construction crews out this week have been working on:
  • Installation of new water service lines to businesses along Liberty Drive
  • Completion of the storm sewer work along Liberty Drive
  • Installation of concrete for the removed sidewalk, curbs, and driveways on Wheaton Avenue and Wesley Street
Please remember all of our businesses are open during construction and all removed sidewalks leading into businesses and residential buildings have temporary access with safeguards in place.

The City will continue to keep the community informed of construction updates through Facebook, Twitter, the City's website, email updates and City of Wheaton Channel 10. We appreciate your patience as we work to complete this project and will do everything we can to keep traffic flowing and minimize inconvenience to residents and businesses.
Yard Waste

Yard Waste Pickup Resumes April 5

Yard waste pickup will resume the week of Monday, April 5. Yard waste, food scraps and organic materials can be collected at the curb from the first full week of April through the second full week of December on your pickup day.

Downtown Wheaton Egg Hunt

Visit the Downtown Wheaton area now through Saturday, April 3 and help support businesses while enjoying a special egg hunt as you look for themed items in the windows of participating businesses. Visit the Downtown Wheaton Associations website for more information about the event including a special map of participating businesses. 

Recycle

Recycling Extravaganza is April 10 

The City’s Recycling Extravaganza event will be happening in Wheaton from 8:30 a.m. through 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 10. Taking place at Commuter Lot 9 (at Liberty Drive and Carlton Avenue), residents can bring a variety of materials to be reused or recycled at this drive-through event where volunteers will unload items to be safely disposed of at the event. Things you can bring include: documents for shredding; syringes, epi-pens & medicine for safe disposal; scrap metal; bikes; books, latex paint (fee applies), electronics (fee applies for monitors & TVs) and much more.

Masks are required at this event, and participants are asked to place items to be dropped off as far back in their trunks as possible for volunteers to handle.

Good Citizens Awards

Commission Accepting Nominations for Good Citizens Awards

Wheaton's Community Relations Commission is seeking nominations for Wheaton’s 2021 Good Citizens Awards now through April 26. This award helps recognize those who make the generous and often extraordinary contributions that make Wheaton an outstanding community. This may be volunteer service for a school, religious institution, nursing home, civic group or nonprofit organization.

Nominees must be current Wheaton residents who have done something for the benefit of Wheaton and its citizens. The categories for nominees are: Student (elementary, middle, high school or college), Adult, Group. 

To nominate someone, fill out an online application at www.wheaton.il.us/goodcitizen by Monday, April 26, or mail your application to Wheaton City Hall, Attn: Andrea Rosedale, 303 W. Wesley St., Wheaton, IL 60187.

The Community Relations Commission will review nominations and will honor award recipients at the May 17 City Council meeting.

Plant Sale

Save the Date for Native Plant Sale

The Wheaton Environmental Improvement Commission’s Native Plant Sale will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 24 at the City of Wheaton Storage Yard, 820 W. Liberty Drive. Parking for this event will be at the Commuter Parking Lot 9, just east of the Storage Yard, at Liberty Drive and Carlton Avenue. 

This event is provided through the partnership of the City's Environmental Improvement Commission, City of Wheaton and Wheaton Park District to encourage the community to choose eco-friendly plants for their landscapes.

Commission Thanks Community for Celebrating Women’s History Month

The City’s Community Relations Commission thanks all of the community for helping in celebrating Women’s History Month in Wheaton.

The City’s Community Relations Commission held numerous events and activities throughout the City in March in celebration of Women’s History Month. The Commission’s Women’s History Month web page also shared information about the history of the Women’s History Month; Women’s History Month related events including the We Are Women Art Exhibit in Downtown Wheaton; and included a special collection of women who played an important role in Wheaton.

In addition, the Community Relations Commission asked residents to highlight special women of Wheaton on social by using the hashtag #womenofwheaton. The Commission encourages residents who haven’t already done so to visit www.wheaton.il.us/womenshistorymonth and to continue to use the hashtag #womenofwheaton on their social media platforms.

DEI

Wheaton Public Library - DEI: Conversation with Wheaton Community Leaders Video

The Wheaton Public Library hosted City leaders to discuss DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) issues during a virtual panel conversation on Tuesday, March 23. The event was moderated by students from Wheaton North and Wheaton Warrenville South High Schools, and community leaders who participated in the discussion included Wheaton City Manager Mike Dzugan, Wheaton Police Chief Bill Murphy, Wheaton Public Library Director Betsy Adamowski, Wheaton Community Relations Commission Chairperson Tony Asta, and Community Unit School District 200 Superintendent Jeff Schuler.
