Count me In

Census Day 2020: Have You Been Counted?

Today's the day! Communities nationwide are observing April 1 as Census Day and encouraging EVERYONE to be counted. While we #StayHomeSaveLives, use this time to complete the 2020 U.S. Census. See this information on how to complete it (even if you lost the mailing from the U.S. Census Bureau). It's easier than ever and can be completed online in just a few minutes. Let's make Wheaton count.

DuPage County Provides Map of Confirmed Cases

The DuPage County Health Department launched a map on its website showing the number of lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in DuPage County. This new tool also includes a breakdown of confirmed cases by city/village. Please note that information on how many individuals in Wheaton have tested positive for COVID-19 is collected and maintained by the DuPage County Health Department.

Council Members Encourage You to Stay Home, Save Lives

The Wheaton City Council encourages the community to help stop the spread of COVID-19 by staying home, in accordance with Governor Pritzker’s Stay at Home Executive Order. Here are a few ways the Wheaton City Council is staying home for the sake of our community.

Message from Wheaton Police on Governor's Stay At Home Order

The Wheaton Police Department encourages you to follow the Governor’s Stay-at-Home Executive Order. See this short message from the Wheaton Police Department on what is/is not permissible and how you can help stop the spread of COVID-19. This is especially important as many local students are starting their spring break and as weather begins to warm up.

Resources for Local Businesses

The spread of the COVID-19 virus and the Executive Order by the Illinois Governor requiring the closure of ’non-essential’ businesses and restaurants have a tremendous impact on our local businesses. In an effort to be a continued source of information during this difficult time, the City of Wheaton has compiled a COVID-19 Business Resources section on its website to help connect businesses with state and federal grant programs, loans and other guidance.

How You Can Support Local Businesses

The City of Wheaton encourages the community to consider doing what you can to support our local businesses, including restaurants, retail establishments, service providers and others. For ideas on how you can support local businesses in these challenging times, the Downtown Wheaton Association and Wheaton Chamber of Commerce are resources.

Yard Waste Pickup Resumes Next Week

Lakeshore Recycling Systems will resume yard waste pickups starting next week on your normal pickup day. You can use containers no larger than 35 gallons in size or biodegradable paper bags. Each container or biodegradable bag must weigh no more than 50 pounds and must have 1 yard waste/organics/garbage sticker attached in order to be collected.

Traffic Detour for One Block of Main Street

A traffic detour began Thursday, March 26, for the block of Main Street between Front Street and Wesley Street and is expected to last approximately two weeks. With many businesses closed under the Governor’s Stay at Home Executive Order and reduced daytime traffic, the City has brought in a second construction crew for the Downtown Streetscape Project to expedite work and reduce the amount of overall disruption to businesses. Crews will reopen this block to vehicle traffic each evening.
Thank you for your patience as crews work to make important infrastructure improvements.
