Message from the Mayor on City’s COVID-19 Response

Please see this update from Mayor Suess regarding the City’s response to COVID-19.

Meeting Cancellations

The City will be cancelling meetings of City boards and commissions until at least May 18. The exception will be those boards/commissions that have pending business that cannot be postponed. In such cases, the number of people in attendance will be limited per state mandates, and social distancing procedures will be followed. The Wheaton City Council will continue to meet to conduct City business.

Events Postponed/Cancelled

The City is working to reschedule these events to a later date. The events that will not take place on their originally scheduled dates include:

  • Recycling Extravaganza (originally April 4)
  • Start of the French Market season (originally April 11 start)
  • Arbor Day celebration (originally April 24)
  • Native Plant Sale (originally April 25)

The City anticipates additional events will be postponed and/or cancelled.

Library Closure

The Wheaton Public Library made the difficult decision to close starting Monday, March 16, in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please watch the Library’s website at www.wheatonlibrary.org for updates, announcements and additional information. Thank you for your understanding.

Online Services

If residents have City business to conduct, there are a number of services available online for residents. Online payments for utility billing are available at www.wheaton.il.us/billpay. Payments can also be dropped off in the drive-through mailbox just west of City Hall (the driveway entrance is on Wesley Street). In addition, many types of service requests can be made online at wheaton.il.us/servicerequest.

Join Live Online Community Forum for Strategic Plan

To follow the CDC’s recommendations for practicing social distancing and limiting gatherings of people, the City of Wheaton will not be hosting in-person community engagement forums this Thursday. Instead, you can participate in live online community engagement forums led by project consultant Management Partners on Facebook. At 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday, March 19, visit the City's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/CityOfWheaton (or search for City of Wheaton on Facebook). We hope to see you on Facebook!

Information on Illinois Restaurants & Carry-out

An Executive Order by the Illinois Governor currently requires the closure of on-premise dining at restaurants through March 30. However, carry-out, drive-up, and drive-through options are allowed. The Downtown Wheaton Association is compiling information from downtown businesses on their specific options for carry-out, delivery, etc. See the Downtown Wheaton Association’s Facebook group for more information on how you can continue to support local businesses.
