Wheaton Advances to State’s Phase 4 Covid-19 Restrictions

COVID_InfoUpdate-01

Based on continued progress in reducing the spread of Covid-19 in our area, on Feb. 3, 2021, Region 8, which includes DuPage and Kane Counties, moved to Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois Plan Covid-19 mitigations. This means lowered restrictions for activities such as indoor dining, organized recreational activities and meetings/social events.

Some of the Phase 4 restrictions include:

Restaurants & Bars

  • Indoor dining and drinking now permitted for parties of up to 10 people
  • Seated areas should be arranged so that tables allow for 6 ft. between parties; impermeable barriers may be installed between booths which are less than 6 ft. apart

Retail and Service Counter

  • Continue capacity limit of no more than 50% occupancy

Meetings and Social Events

  • Limit to the lesser of 50 people or 50% of room capacity
  • Multiple groups may meet in the same facility if they are socially distanced and in separate rooms

Health and Fitness

  • Capacity limit of no more than 50% occupancy

Indoor/Outdoor Recreation

  • Reopening select indoor recreation facilities (e.g., bowling alleys, skating rinks); indoor playgrounds and trampoline parks should remain closed
  • Indoor recreation to operate at lesser of 50 customers or 50% of facility capacity

Youth and Recreational Sports

  • Competitive gameplay and tournaments permitted for moderate and lower risk sports. Intra-team scrimmages for higher risk sports
  • Limit of 50 spectators for events

Personal Care

  • Continue capacity limit of no more than 50% occupancy

Theaters and Performing Arts

  • Seated theaters, cinemas, and performing arts centers for ticketed events with seating available for all customers permitted; general admission shows and/or events with standing room only are not permitted at this time
  • Indoor capacity limit of 50 people or less or 50% of space capacity (applies to each screening room); outdoor capacity limited to 20% of overall space capacity

There are additional restrictions. Please see the full list of restrictions on the Illinois Department of Commerce’s website

Region 8 was able to move out of Tier 1 mitigations back to Phase 4 due to its 7-day average test positivity rate reaching at or below 6.5% for three consecutive days, a staffed ICU bed availability of at least 20% for 3 consecutive days, and no sustained increase in Covid-19 patients in the hospital, using a 7-day average for 7 of 10 days.

Even though our region is headed in the right direction, the City of Wheaton still strongly encourages the community to protect one another from Covid-19: Wear a mask, wash your hands frequently, and watch your distance from those outside your immediate household.
