On March 14, 2019, Timothy Bender, of Harvard, Illinois, was arrested by the Wheaton Police Department and the FBI as a suspect in the bank robbery that took place last March at the Chase Bank on Naperville Road in Wheaton.

With assistance from the public, Timothy Bender was identified as the suspect in the bank robbery and subsequently arrested by the Wheaton Police Department and the FBI. Mr. Bender was transported to the DuPage County Jail and then remanded to the custody of the FBI on March 15, 2019, where he was charged with bank robbery. See the attached criminal complaint.

The Wheaton Police Department would like to thank the Lombard Police Department for their assistance in this investigation along with the members of the community who came forward and assisted in the identification of Mr. Bender in this almost yearlong investigation.

“Mr. Bender’s identification and arrest were only possible with the assistance of our community and the diligent investigation of the FBI and the detectives of the Wheaton Police Department. This was a perfect example of community policing in action,” said Wheaton Police Chief Bill Murphy.
