Sanitary Sewer Backups
While many residents experience flooding during instances where storm sewers can’t keep up with an extraordinary amount of rain that falls in a short time, sanitary sewer backups and overflows occur when stormwater runoff infiltrates the sanitary sewer system and causes parts of the system to exceed the sewer pipes’ capacity. Read more about how the City is addressing sanitary sewer backups and how you can reduce the incidence of backups through the Overhead Sewer Private Property Protection Program (PDF).
